Wildlife volunteering

In Tambopata, someone is working hard for wildlife conservation and against illegal trade. Her name is Magali Salinas, who has worked in animal rescue programs since 2005. A few years ago, she moved to Tambopata to create her own rescue center, and that is how the Amazon Shelter started working for animal protection. Amazon Shelter is an NGO that operates the CRCAS, which means in Spanish Wild Animal Rescue and Conservation Center. Today, Magali receives not just a variety of rescued animal species, but volunteers from all over the world, most of them biologists, veterinaries, and also just animal lovers. They help at the rescue center with a variety of activities, like preparing the animal diets, feeding them, cleaning their enclosures, taking care of their health, and more. Every activity is made for an animal wellness, with the aim of reinsert it in its natural habitat, if it is possible.
Amazon Shelter is now home of a variety of monkey species as howler monkeys, brown capuchins and night monkeys, macaws, a deer, a peccary, coatis, and many turtles that have found a better place to live, but need a lot of care. That is why Magali needs more help in her center, and offers a program for volunteers who would like to spend a time working with animals and surrounded by nature, in the outskirts of Puerto Maldonado, just 40 minutes away from town by road.
